BetterInbox — Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 9, 2026

BetterInbox is a browser extension that adds folders, status labels, private notes, and at-a-glance trust signals to your HomeExchange inbox. It runs entirely in your own browser. It has no backend, no analytics, and no account.

The short version

BetterInbox does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Everything it stores stays on your own device. We never see it.

What is stored, and where

The only data BetterInbox saves is the content you create to organize your inbox:

This is saved using your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device. It is not sent anywhere. You can export it to a JSON file or delete it at any time from the extension's popup.

Network requests

BetterInbox makes requests only to HomeExchange, and only on your behalf while you are logged in and viewing the relevant page. Specifically, when you open a conversation or click "Load trust" on a row, it fetches that member's public profile information (rating, completed exchanges, member-since) so it can be shown next to the conversation.

What BetterInbox does NOT do

Permissions

Your control

You can export your data as JSON, re-import it, or remove all of it by uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage. Because nothing leaves your device, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Disclaimer

BetterInbox is an independent, unofficial tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by HomeExchange.
